From what I understand, if you go that route, you don't install the Nvidia drivers from the Ubuntu settings you use the ones included in the Bumblebee install, but I'd check for yourself first. That'll give you Optimus-like support, so Ubuntu will use the integrated Intel graphics hardware normally, then you use 'optirun ' in the terminal to start a program using your Nvidia card. Once those are installed, you don't need 'nomodeset' anymore.īut since you're on a laptop, it might be better to use Bumblebee. From there, I used the Additional Drivers section of the Ubuntu settings to grab the proprietary Nvidia driver. Then I used 'nomodeset' again to get into the new installation one more time. ![]() That got me to the live desktop, and I was able to install the OS. I needed to pass 'nomodeset' as a GRUB parameter in the bootloader. Ubuntu wouldn't even boot to the live environment for me because the Nouveau drivers weren't there yet. I had problems installing Ubuntu with my GTX 860m last year.
